Pasteurella species

Pasteurella is Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic bacteria. Pasteurella species are nonmotile and pleomorphic, and often exhibit bipolar staining. Most species are catalase- and oxidase-positive.
Commonly found in upper respiratory tract & digestive tracts of animals & birds. Grow well in nutrient agar and Blood agar. It causes Haemorrhagic septicemia (HS) in cattle & buffalo. Pasteurellosis in sheep, Fowl cholera, Atrophic rhinitis in pig, Snuffles in rabbits.
