Poultry farming is the process of raising domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, quials and guinea fowls for the purpose of farming meat or eggs for food.

- Classification of breeds of fowl includes American class, Mediterranean class, English class and Asiatic class (Indian breed).
- American class includes fowls of New Hampshire (USA), White Plymouth Rock (USA), Rhode Island Red (USA) and Wyandote II (USA).
- Mediterranean class includes fowls of Leghorn (Italy), Ancona (U.K) and Minorca (Spain).
- English class includes fowls of Australorp (Australia), Susex (U.K) and Orpington (South east U.K).
- Asiatic class (Indian breed) includes fowls of Asil (India, Andhra Pradesh), Kadacknath (India, M.P) and Naked neck (India).
