How can one differentiate between B cells and T cells?

Differences between B cells and T cells

B cells

  • Site of development is Bone marrow, Bursa of fabricius, Payer’s patches
  • Distribution among Lymph node cortex and germinal centre Marginal zone of spleen
  • Antigen Receptor are B cell receptors (BCRs)
  • Surface receptors are CD19 and CD21
  • Role in immune response is
    • As plasma cells produces antibodies
    • As APCs process and present antigen on their surface

T cells

  • Site of development is Thymus
  • Distribution among Para-cortical area of Lymph nodes, Peri-arteriolar lymph sheath (PALS) of spleen
  • Antigen Receptor are T cell receptors (TCRs)
  • Surface receptors are CD3, CD4, and CD8
  • Role in immune response is
    • As T cytotoxic cells plays important role in cell mediated immunity
