Equine strongyloidosis

Equine strongyloidosis is a nematode parasitic disease of equines characterized by verminous arthritis, aneurysm, saddle thrombi, anaemia and intestinal infarction.

  • Eggs pass through faeces.
  • First stage larvae hatched out and develop up to 3rd stage.
  • Ingested through feed/water.
  • Penetrate intestine, moult in sub mucosa and reach in anterior mesenteric artery.
  • After maturation, adult parasites return to caecum.
  • Characteristic Symptoms are Diarrhoea with melena, Abdominal pain, Weakness of the legs and anaemia.
