Equine strongyloidosis is a nematode parasitic disease of equines characterized by verminous arthritis, aneurysm, saddle thrombi, anaemia and intestinal infarction.
- Eggs pass through faeces.
- First stage larvae hatched out and develop up to 3rd stage.
- Ingested through feed/water.
- Penetrate intestine, moult in sub mucosa and reach in anterior mesenteric artery.
- After maturation, adult parasites return to caecum.
- Characteristic Symptoms are Diarrhoea with melena, Abdominal pain, Weakness of the legs and anaemia.
